Arguments
Against Paying Down the
National Debt
When the government pays down the national debt, it has
less money in the money supply. Less money in the money supply could lead to
deflationary recession.
Why pay the debt at all? Assuming it has to be paid eventually, we pay it
now or we'll be taxed to pay it later. The more we pay up front, the lower our
future taxes. A payment on the national debt is a tax cut in tomorrow's taxes
instead of today's.
More about how this works will be explained in the "How the United States
Works" section.
